Welcome to Summer 2019 with Main IDEA!

Hello to all the Worcesterites, supporters of Main IDEA, art enthusiasts, youth work enthusiasts, blog connoisseurs, and all of the above! Welcome to the launch of the official blog for Main IDEA youth and arts summer programming! As we enter our ninth year offering accessible arts education and empowerment opportunities for Worcester children and young adults, we've decided to up our game by sharing our organization's success stories, community engagement ventures, and all the nuts and bolts along the way with the rest of the world. From now until August, we'll be posting updates and digests on the many different art programs we'll be hosting throughout the city, spotlighting some of our wonderful staff, and uploading photos and videos of all the fun and excitement our summer is going to entail!

This past weekend, Main IDEA had the privilege of collaborating with the Worcester Day of Play family festival, an annual free event held in the city's own Elm Park (which, fun fact, was the first piece of land publicly purchased to be a park in America)! The Day of Play is a great opportunity to get involved with the Main South community, and we were delighted to have our interns volunteering at the event, as well as some of our student artists bringing the music to Day of Play with their fantastic performances!

First up was Serenity Jackson, who took her amazing stage presence up with her as she performed original rap and hip hop mixes that left audiences absolutely electrified! Phil Russo was next on our lineup, who opted to celebrate Pride Month with some killer acoustic covers of Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" and "She's Got a Girlfriend Now" by Reel Big Fish, to name a few. Closing our performance was singer-songwriter YannaKai, who stole our hearts when she took to the keyboard to play a few original songs alongside hits like Adele's "Someone Like You." Check out the pictures below to see these budding artists in action, as well as the awesome crowds they were playing for!

This past Friday, June 21st, Main IDEA once again made a public appearance at Make Music Worcester, an annual event that spans across numerous Worcester amenities. We hosted the Youth Stage concert space for musicians aged 10-17; stay tuned for a post full of pictures and details from the rainy but successful day!

That's all from us for now! Keep checking back throughout the week as we keep you posted on all things Main IDEA this summer!
